Liverpool Football Club International Academy Mauritius prepares to depart for South Africa on its annual international tour. As part of its relentless quest to elevate Mauritian football to international standards and to create opportunities for youngsters through scouting and scholarships, LFCIA Mauritius continues with its annual international football tour to seek high level challenges!
Côte d’Or National Sports Complex is delighted to announce that the Liverpool Football Club International Academy Mauritius is participating in its third consecutive international tour where they will play a series of football matches. The squad will be in South Africa from August 9, 2024 to August 18, 2024. This tour has been made possible with the outstanding assistance of Transition Football Club (an official partner club of Celtic FC in Scotland) and the good connections of Head Coach, Neil Murphy. The team LFCIA Mauritius delegation will consist of 16 talented players, aged between 17 and 19 years old, Angelito Boff (Team Coach), and Head Coach of the Academy, Neil Murphy.
During the 10-day tour in South Africa, the young Mauritians will also get a taste of the Africa’s tough climate, high altitude and challenging environment, on and off the pitch. This once-a-lifetime opportunity will offer the young LFCIA players the ideal platform to showcase their talents, energy, thirst for the game and to catch foreign eyes to secure chances to play abroad as they are poised to become football professionals.
Led by the charismatic captain, Jeremy Chinien (defender), the squad will play four football matches and the schedule is as follows:
– August 10, 2024 – LFCIA Team v Transition FC
– August 12, 2024 – LFCIA Team v TS Galaxy FC
– August 14, 2024 – LFCIA Team v University of Pretoria FC
– August 15, 2024 – LFCIA Team v Orlando Pirates FC
As part of the tour on the land of Madiba, the LFCIA players will be educated on the history of South Africa, and on Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. Furthermore, they will have the chance to indulge in some great experiences such as visiting Nelson Mandela Square, the Lion Park, Apartheid Museum, enjoy team building activities, assist a professional football match and more.
A personification of Liverpool’s philosophy, culture, and values, Neil Murphy, Head Coach of LFCIA Mauritius, says, “I am proud that the academy has brought another bright opportunity for the players to travel to South Africa and to connect with a great continent which has produced many great football players. The proximity of South Africa proved to be a realistic destination for this annual team tour, and their established professional league with professional clubs, alongside their youth academies. So, I am expecting the standard of the games to be a level above the Indian Ocean and I’m really intrigued to gage and compare the SA players and teams for a bigger picture of the perspective of the current youth football in Mauritius. Playing against top level teams of the host country will be a reward of measure for the hard work and commitment of my academy’s players. I hope that my players will make the most of this football showcase to shine and impress. And, that they will be asked to return for further assessment. As LFCIA Mauritius, we are going to be proud to promote the Mauritian youth football environment and leave a lasting good impression for future collaborations.”
