Côte d’Or National Sports Complex is operating at its full capacity with all its sports venues engaged in preparing and training international elite athletes, national athletes and Mauritian people are benefitting to stay heathy and fit through the same facilities by taking monthly sports memberships.
Being a certified international high performance centre by the ASPC (Association of Sport Performance Centres), the High Performance Centre Mauritius (HPC Mauritius) is currently hosting a one-month intense training camp for UK elite athletes who are preparing for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The UK athletes are using the:
• World Athletics certified “Class 1” athletics track and field
• The outdoor power gym of 547m2
• High Performance Centre gym of 960m2
• Ice baths and recovery centre
The 5 athletes and 1 coach are working on their competitive and athletic performance in an unmatched tropical setting to maximize their potential while they target the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Jade O’Dowda (23 years old): Heptathlon
• Current English Champion
• 2022 Commonwealth Games Bronze Medal
• 7th European Championship
• PB : 6224 Pts
• Targets : World Championship (Budapest) 2023 and Olympics Paris 2024
Anna Mc Caully (21 years old): Heptathlon
• Current -21 English Champion
• 6th 2022 Commonwealth Games
• PB : 5540 Pts
• Targets : -21 European Championship (Finland) 2023 and Olympic Paris 2024
Sam Talbot (23 years old): Decathlon
• 2nd at last English Championship
• 2023 Gold medallist Indoor English Championship
• Targets : World Championship (Budapest) 2023 and Olympics Paris 2024
• PB : 7692 Pts
Howard Bell (21 years old): Decathlon
• Scotland Champion
• Injured for 1 year (2022) aiming for a come back and qualify for World Championship, Olympics and Commonwealth Games
• PB : 6891 Pts
Angelique Aberley (17 years old): Sprint : 200/400m
• Aiming for IOIG and African Championship + Commonwealth Games Qualification
John Lane (Coach) : decathlon / heptathlon
• British Champion
• Did 4 European Cups and 2014 (4th) /2018 (6th) Commonwealth Games
• Have been British record holder for Junior Heptathlon

About The High Performance Centre Mauritius (HPC Mauritius)
The HPC Mauritius is actively preparing, training, and developing 175 national athletes of the Team Mauritius, clustered into 13 disciplines, through its diverse range of specialisation; sport science, rehabilitation, elite level coaching, monitoring, scientific assessment, and periodic testing. The national athletes follow their respective performance program, which has been designed by the highly qualified experts of the HPC consisting of sports scientist and strength and conditioning specialists.
Since almost a year, Richarno Colin and Mervin Clair, the reigning boxing champions of Mauritius, are training at the HPC almost every day. They use the facilities of the HPC at its maximum to boost their performance and to recover from high intensity training through protocols such as the ice bath, recovery boot and more.
One of the key values of the HPC Mauritius is innovation. To go the extra mile, an altitude room has been added to the extensive menu. Launched at the start of this year, the altitude room has the capacity to push the limits of athletes’ endurance for several weeks at a high altitude of 4,000 meters above sea level. This high-level practice is ideal for training camps in altitude and a game changer for future international competitions.
About The National Combat Centre
Located on the ground floor of the Main Hall, the National Combat Centre is one-of-its-kind in Mauritius and is also a multi-sport centre of excellence. This facility has 220 m2 of floor space and can cater for multiple sports at once. Rapidly developing into a renowned training facility, the National Combat Centre complements the High Performance Centre Mauritius to deliver on national programs with emphasis on elite combat sport athletes such boxing and martials arts. The combat centre is fitted with an international competition standard boxing ring, a cage fight ring, wrestling mat flooring and a variety of boxing bags.
The National Boxing Team trains twice at the National Combat Centre and combines boxing with conditioning to optimise their finest display for competition. Open to the public through sports membership at the HPC gym, the gym members enjoy their BoxFit sessions, on Tuesdays from 6pm to 7pm, with Abel Thesée, Senior Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
