Côte d’Or National Sports Complex is the designated venue to host this 5-day major event at its World Athletics Class One Certified Athletic Track and Field.
Designed for major sporting events! Côte d’Or, the centre piece of Mauritius, enters a new phase to welcome 850 female and male athletes for a 5-day athletics championship, set to take place from 8 to 12 June 2022.
Spearheaded by the Mauritius Athletics Association (MAA) in close collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation (MYESR), the Senior African Athletics Championship will welcome athletes from 54 African countries.
Previously, the island hosted two editions of the African Championships in the years, 1992 and 2006. Following the cancellation of the last edition, which was set to be held in Oran – Algeria, the Mauritian Athletics Association bid to host the 22nd edition and the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) awarded this competition to Mauritius which now boasts latest international sports venues at Cote d’Or.
Did you know that the previous editions were held at the Anjalay Stadium in 1992, and at the Germain Comarmond stadium in 2006? For the third time now, it is the World Athletics Class One Certified Athletic Track and Field of Cote d’Or which will be the performing stage for top African athletes in a variety of disciplines such as 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m, high jump, 100m hurdles, 110m hurdles, 4 x 400m, shot put, hammer, long jump, javelin, discus, pole vault, 3000m steeple chase, triple jump, 20km walk and 10km trail.
